This page contains information about category A projects assessed by EKF for environmental and social sustainability within the last two calendar years.
​Category A projects comprise projects with potential significant adverse environmental and/or social impacts under OECD Common Approaches. EKF discloses information on all category A projects at least 30 days, before we decide if EKF can take part in the project.

Transmission line/Angola 
31 August 2017

The project is located in Angola. It is a 240 km long 400kv transmission line, which will be connecting the hydroelectric power plant Laúca with a transformer station near Luanda.
The project is classified as a Category A-project according to OECD Common Approaches. EKF is assessing the project against IFC Performance and relevant sector specific and general Environmental, Health and Safety Guidelines.

Ryenosa Wind Farm, Mexico
30 June 2017

The wind farm is located in the northern part of Mexico, 40 km south of city of Reynosa in Tamaulipas. The wind farm will consist of the construction and operation of 123 turbines with a total of 424 MW and a 29 km transmission line to the Aeropuerto Substation. The project is formed by five clusters divided into two windfarm areas. The two areas will be interconnected by a 19 km transmission line. The project is classified as a Category A-project according to OECD Common Approaches. EKF is assessing the project against IFC Performance and relevant sector specific and general Environmental, Health and Safety Guidelines.

Walney, Irish Sea
29 May 2017

Walney Extension is an offshore windfarm, which is located in the Irish Sea around 19 kilometers off the coast from Blackpool. The project is an extension of an existing windfarm and the extension will consist of a total 87 wind turbines and a capacity around 659 MW.

The project is classified as a Category A-project according to OECD Common Approaches and EKF Guidelines. EKF is carrying out environmental and social due diligence against relevant laws and regulation, the Equator Principles and OECD Common Approaches.

Zadar 6, Croatia
18 April 2017

Zadar 6 is an on-shore wind farm which is located at Gracac, Croatia. The project is an expansion of an existing windfarm and will consist of 13 turbines and an installed capacity of approximately 44MW. The final design of the windfarm after the capacity expansion will consist of 17 windturbines and have an installed capacity of approximately 53MW. The project is classified as a Category A-project according to OECD Common Approaches because of its close proximity to a Natura 2000 site. The proximity of the Natura 2000 site was considered during the project’s Environmental Impact Assessment conducted and approved in accordance with the national law. EKF is carrying out environmental and social due diligence against relevant laws and regulation and OECD Common Approaches.

Puerto Madryn Wind Farm, Argentina
09 February 2017
 
The wind farm is located in Patagonia close to the city of Puerto Madryn. The wind farm will consist of 65 turbines with an installed capacity of 220 MW and will be developed in two stages. EKF is assessing the project against IFC Performance and relevant sector specific and general Environmental, Health and Safety Guidelines.

Taiba Ndiaye Wind Farm, Senegal
03 November 2016

The project is located in the Taiba region in Senegal about 70 kilometers northeast of Dakar. It consists of 46 Vestas V126-3.45MW Mk. III turbines with a total capacity of about 158,7MW. The project is classified as a Category A-project according to OECD Common Approaches. EKF is carrying out environmental and social due diligence against IFC Performance Standards and relevant sector and general Environmental, Health and Safety Guidelines, relevant laws and regulations, OECD Common Approaches and Equator Principles.

Beldan FLLC, Belarus
14 October 2016

The project consists of two pig-farms and a slaughterhouse.  The farms are located at Slonim and Tolochin which is respectively about 170 kilometers southwest and 150 kilometers northeast of Minsk. The slaughterhouse is located in an industrial area in Baranovichi. Livestock at each farm consists of 2.000 sows and the production is designed for 55.000 finishers per year. The slaughterhouse has a capacity on approximately 250.000 pigs/year.

The project is classified as a Category A-project according to OECD Common Approaches. EKF is carrying out environmental and social due diligence against relevant laws and regulation including Danish and EU legislation on animal welfare, IFC Performance Standards and OECD Common Approaches.

Kiata, Australia

The wind farm is located in Victoria 50km north west of Horsham close to Kiata. The wind farm will consist of 9 turbines with an installed capacity of 30 MW. EKF is assessing the project against national laws and regulations, the Equator Principles and OECD Common Approaches.

Sapphire, Australia
4th October 2016

The wind farm is located in northern New South Wales 18 km west of the town of Glen Innes. The wind farm will consist of 75 turbines with an installed capacity of 270 MW. EKF is assessing the project against national laws and regulations, the Equator Principles and OECD Common Approaches.

Norther NV, Belgium

Norther is an offshore windfarm, which is located approximately 25 kilometers from Zeebrugge. The project will consist of
MHI Vestas Offshore Wind WTGs and have a capacity around 370MW. The project also includes export cable and an offshore substation.

The project is classified as a Category A-project according to OECD Common Approaches and EKF Guidelines. EKF is carrying out environmental and social due diligence against relevant laws and regulation, the Equator Principles and OECD Common Approaches.

Three windparks in South Africa
1 June 2016

EKF is involved in the financing of three different onshore wind parks in South Africa. The projects are located in three different places, but each project will consist of 43 turbines and each with an installed capacity of approximately 140MW.

The three projects are:

> Karusa
> Oyster Bay

Tellenes Windfarm, Norge
18 March 2016
 
Tellenes is an on-shore wind farm which is located in Rogaland in an area 4-5 kilometers north of Åna-Sira in the southwestern of Norway. The windfarm will consist of 50 windturbines and will have an installed capacity of approximately 160MW. The windfarm will also consist of an overhead transmissionline, which will be connected to the substation in Åna-Sira.
 
The project is classified as a Category A-project according to OECD Common Approaches and EKF guidelines. EKF is carrying out environmental and social due diligence against relevant laws and regulation, the Equator Principles and OECD Common Approaches.

Scandinavian Farms, China

The project is located in the eastern parts of China in an area about 350 km northwest of Shanghai. The production farm as a whole consist of a breeding farm housing 7.800 breeding sows and a finisher farm with a production of approximately 230.000 finishers.
 
The project is classified as a Category A-project according to OECD Common Approaches. EKF is carrying out environmental and social due diligence against relevant laws and regulation including Danish and EU legislation on animal welfare, IFC Performance Standards and OECD Common Approaches.

Rentel, Belgium

Rentel is an offshore windfarm which is located approximately 32 kilometers from the harbor of Zeebrugge in Belgium. The windfarm will consist of 42 Siemens 7.0-154 WTGs and have a capacity around 300MW. The project also consists of a subsea export cable from the wind farm to an onshore jointing pit.
 
The project is classified as a Category A-project according to OECD Common Approaches and the EKF Guidelines. EKF is carrying out environmental and social due diligence against relevant laws and regulation, the Equator Principles and OECD Common Approaches.

Beatrice, UK
19 January 2016

Beatrice is an off-shore wind farm which is located in the Outer Moray Firth approximately 14 kilometers from the Caithness coastline in Scottish Territorial Waters. The windfarm is expected to consist of 84 Siemens WTGs and two off-shore substations and is expected to have an installed capacity of 588MW. In addition there will be subsea export cables and an onshore export cable, which will convey the electricity to Blackhillock substation.
 
The project is classified as a Category A-project according to EKF Guidelines due to having a capacity of more than 100MW. EKF is carrying out environmental and social due diligence against relevant laws and regulation, the Equator Principles and OECD Common Approaches.
