About EKF

Current category A projects

This page contains information about current category A projects in EKF.
Category A projects comprise projects with significant adverse environmental and social impacts, such as oil refineries, steel works, large oil and gas pipelines, large dams, large dumping grounds and major farm projects.

In compliance with the OECD’s environmental recommendation, EKF asks the exporter or project sponsor to make the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) publicly available in connection with this type of projects.
It is a condition precedent for an EKF guarantee that the ESIA has been made publicly available at least 30 calendar days before EKF’s final commitment to grant cover.

If you have any questions regarding category A projects, you are welcome to contact EKF´s Department for Environment and Social Sustainability: ekfcsr@ekf.dk

Fantanele Pig Farm Project, Romania

20 December 2013

The project, which is located near the village Fantanele in Romania, comprises renovation and expansion of an existing pig farm housing 2,500 to 6,200 sows in order to increase the existing capacity from 64,000 finishers to approx. 100,000 per year. The project will house the weaners (up to 30kg), whereas the finishers from 30 to 107 kg) will be housed at a nearby farm owned by the same company (Premium Porc SRL, which is a daughter company of the Danish company DCH International A/S).

The project has been subject to Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and will have its Integrated Pollution, Prevention and Control (IPPC) permit updated before commencing full operation. The EIA as well as the IPPC set specific requirements for managing environmental impacts. Slurry will be stored in lagoons designed according to Danish standards before applied on neighbouring farms according to EU standards.

All stables are designed according to Danish animal welfare standards. Transport of weaners will not exceed 30km and transportation of finishers will not exceed 400km. Transport of pigs will be done in the company’s own fleet of trucks all meeting Danish standards for animal welfare.
