How it works

How to apply

It is easy to apply for a guarantee from EKF. Here we explain what you need to do.

Through a bank
Most applications for EKF guarantees are made through a bank, since the bank will typically be involved in any credits or loans connected with the export transaction.

You can help to speed up the application process by obtaining in advance the last three annual financial statements of the foreign buyer.

As part of the application, your bank completes a form with details of your business, the foreign buyer and the export order. Your export transaction must meet EKF's requirement of promoting economic growth in Denmark. You will also need to sign a declaration that bribery has not been used in connection with the transaction and that EKF may publish certain details about the export transaction once everything has been arranged.

In the first instance, EKF issues a conditional offer to your bank. This conditional offer is valid for six months and the bank uses it in negotiations with the foreign buyer on the credit or loan agreement. EKF issues the final guarantee once the agreement with the buyer has been finalised.

Directly to EKF
If your company is granting credit to the foreign buyer itself, you apply directly to EKF for a guarantee.

EKF will need the last three annual financial statements from the foreign buyer for assessing the buyer's creditworthiness. You can obtain the financial statements in advance to help speed up EKF's application processing.

Through a credit insurance company
If your company is a customer of a private credit insurance company and the repayment terms offered to your foreign customers are less than 180 days, you can apply for cover of your exports through EKF's reinsurance scheme for those customers that the credit insurance company declines to provide cover for.

If your company is a customer of a private credit insurance company, you can apply for cover of your exports through EKF's reinsurance scheme. This applies to those customers that the credit insurance company declines to provide cover for. You will need to fulfil the conditions of the scheme, including that the repayment term you offer your foreign buyers is less than 180 days.

Under the reinsurance scheme, EKF takes a large share of the risk from the credit insurance company, so that you can retain sound export orders that might otherwise have come to nothing.

At first you need to ask your credit insurance company to join the reinsurance scheme and sign a declaration regarding the environment, Danish economic interest and non-bribery. The declaration is available on the websites of the Danish credit insurance companies. Your company can register for the reinsurance scheme before the need for reinsurance arises, to avoid any unnecessary wait if and when the need does arise.
If your company is not a customer of a credit insurance company and requires credit insurance for an export order, it must first set up a customer account to be eligible for EKF's reinsurance scheme.

The credit insurance company will be able to assess whether your foreign buyer will be insurable through EKF's reinsurance scheme. This makes application processing much faster, so you can retain the export order.
